21 Artists Project

Exploring, Evaluating & Documenting Art & Social Change

I am the Founder and Project Director for 21 Artists, a culture-led regeneration project with artistic interventions in alternative spaces, featuring artists from diverse backgrounds and creative disciplines around themes relevant to people in each place.

I have worked in an empty storefront space in Chicago's Loop, a former courthouse building in central London, an outdoor community space in East London's Canning Town, and a library in Brixton, south London. In each project, I worked closely with project partners and the local community to ensure a high quality artistic experience while striving to engage participants, visitors, locals and non-traditional arts audiences.

With three projects completed and more in the works, 21 Artists continues to grow and develop internationally to have an even greater impact on more people in places around the world.

21 Artists: Chicago

Held in a vacant storefront in the heart of Chicago's loop, 21 Artists: Chicago featured poets, dancers, painters, illustrators, musicians, performance artists and sculptors, all throughout a 21-day artistic intervention.

Each artist was featured for a day in the space around the theme of the creative process, choosing a quote describing their creative process to base their work on the featured day.

This project was held in partnership with The Chicago Loop Alliance in February 2013.

21 Artists: London Blackfriars

Held in a former courthouse building in the Blackfriars area of central London, the Blackfriars project was based around the theme of transformation, inspiring by the rapid transformation happening in central London.

The project featured architects, installation artists, sculptors, painters, illustrators, dancers, poets, and a writer-in-residence throughout this 21-day intervention which drew upwards of 500 visitors.

21 Artists: London Blackfriars was held in partnership with 3Space in May 2013.

21 Artists: London Deep East

21 Artists: London Deep East was a one day event featuring artists based in and around East London around the theme of Regeneration: People, Places & Identity where artists used the local Canning Town area as inspiration for the work they created for the event.

Held on November 30, 2013 as part of London's first light night, the Brick Box's Light Night Canning Town, 21 Artists: London Deep East transformed the outdoor community hub, Canning Town Caravanserai, into a vibrant hub of creative activity on one magical night.
